Information overload, the problem is real

Information overload is real, so how do you overcome it?

Information overload is real, and in the fast-paced world that we live hard to avoid. Take social media, for instance, helpfully bringing the solutions that we need or don’t need directly to our devices.

One minute you are quietly considering your options and thinking about what to do next. Then you start scrolling to find your way through, over, or past the challenge or problem and in doing so, the powerful algorithms get to work. And before you know it, at every turn, you are being presented with more information and solutions. More ideas, suggestions – stuff you might need, don’t need and didn’t know you needed.

Meaning overwhelm hits, and suddenly your small problem or challenge in front of your eyes has become enormous. Now, you’ve no idea which way to turn, which way is up or your arse from your elbow – and you are stuck. Sound familiar?

Information overload works on autopilot.

It hits when you least expect it, after a conversation or making a passing comment, or because you’ve decided you are ready to act. It starts happening when you are ready to move your business towards a new income level or have recognised a sticking point in the business that you need to streamline, improve or find efficiencies for.

Unfortunately, you can quickly find yourself in a hurricane of information without guidance. Leaving you unsure about what needs fixing, changing or improving, and what felt like the right direction feels anything but. And with your head in your hands, you want to scream.

So, what can you do?

Cut out the noise.

Turn it off. Turn away. Stop looking. Easier said than done, but until you do, you will remain lost in the information you are bombarded with. As I said, information that you may or may not need. Solutions, blueprints, and formulas that have worked for others will find their way to you. (Oh, those pesky algorithms.)

So, leave the Facebook groups and unsubscribe from anyone and anything cluttering the inbox. Stop downloading the PDFs, masterclasses and free training. Turn off your notifications. Don’t ask every friend, family member and business associate the same question. Instead, trust yourself because the answers are within.

After switching off the noise, connect.

Align with the success you desire by defining it. Describe your aspirations and ambitions and decide on goals that inspire and excite you. And if you’ve already done this, reconnect with the success you desire and the plan you’ve already set out.

Because until you know where you are going, what success will look and feel like, and what excites you. You can’t find the right solution for you.

Connection with your success is vital. It prevents you from jumping from one shiny object to the next and ensures you find the solution for your future success, not your business of today, the one you are ready to build from.

Get ready to act.

With silence finally yours to enjoy and clarity of what success looks like, you can and will more easily decide on the right solution. Know precisely what is needed in your business to achieve the success that you so deserve.

Equally, and this happens often to me, with space to breathe and reconnect with your goals, ambitions, and success plan, the perfect solution comes. A light bulb goes on, or it comes like a lightning bolt from nowhere when you least expect it. Suddenly you know exactly what you need to do, change, improve or implement.

And what a wonderful place to be. Because then, when you ask for guidance or recommendations,  you get what you need. You can see how to make it work for you, your business, and your clients – you no longer feel lost and WILL act.

Information overload is real.
