Feeling Stuck in Your Business? You’re Not Alone

Are you feeling stuck in your business right now? Does it feel as if the business is running you, instead of the other way around?
First, relax. This happens to us all at some point, and will happen at different stages of both business and personal development. Equally, there is no blueprint for how or why it might happen; it just does.
Sometimes it creeps up on us, other times it hits like a truck and appears to happen overnight.
Now that you know you are not alone and the tension in your shoulders has eased a little, let’s explore the whys and hows.
Why are you feeling stuck in your business?
The most common reason is that the business hasn’t grown with you. While you are growing in confidence, bringing on new clients, and developing your offers and services, the business hasn’t adjusted.
Obviously, the business can’t miraculously do this on its own. It requires you to stop and check in, to explore what continues to work for you, what is and has become clunky, and what isn’t supporting your growth and direction.
Scarily, you can operate for some time before realising that the business is no longer fit for purpose, and I’ll share the signs in the next section. Before I do that.
You can wake up feeling stuck, or it can happen slowly, for a whole host of reasons, including:
- You have fallen, or are falling, out of love with your business. Perhaps because you have become bored with the services you offer. And by the way, it’s okay to decide that the business no longer inspires you. What you do about it is what matters.
- The business has grown, and you’ve got busy, but you’re not seeing the return you expected. You might not be paying yourself or paying yourself the bare minimum.
- You are stuck at an income ceiling, wanting to hit five figures monthly but finding consistency elusive. Or have set the intention for your first six- or seven-figure year but are watching it slip further away.
Just as success varies from person to person, so does feeling stuck.
It could be one of the points mentioned above, or it might be that you’re simply stuck in creation mode, social media, networking, or in the act of doing without seeing results.
Working out what “stuck” means for you is the first step to changing things, and that can be tough when you are, well, stuck. If this is you, I invite you to book a Discovery Call, during which I’ll help you understand what’s holding you back and explore how I can help. At the very least, you’ll walk away with a clear next step to get moving again.
How does stuck show up?
You already have some clues from above, so let’s look at the signs to watch out for.
- You’re busy, but unsure whether you are making progress or moving forward.
- You’re living the feast-and-famine cycle and are exhausted by it.
- Operationally, everything feels like hard work, and you’re not sure why.
- You’re firefighting daily and starting to wonder if you should apply to be a firefighter!
- You’re attracting the wrong type of client, those who drain your energy.
- Time off feels like a luxury, and you’re working evenings and weekends as standard.
You might literally be exhausted by your business, by everything you need, or think you need, to do. And if you have a team, you’re most likely spending considerable time and energy on people management too.
What is the solution?
It won’t surprise you to hear that I would suggest working with a business coach or mentor. Someone who can offer a fresh perspective and help you see beyond feeling stuck. Because when you’re in the thick of it, it is really hard to see beyond where you are.
That said, here are five things you can do if you are feeling stuck in your business right now:
- Reconnect with your values and business plan. If you don’t have these documented, that might be part of the problem.
- Review your business from top to bottom. One useful way to do this is by creating a business manual.
- Revisit who your ideal client is. They evolve over time, and reconnecting with your perfect client sharpens your marketing.
- Find your community. In my case, that’s ONLE Networking, a community of brilliant people who genuinely support each other’s growth.
- Step away from the business and give yourself permission to rest. That alone can be the reset you need.
Pinpointing the right solution can be genuinely difficult, which is why working with a coach makes such a difference.
My clients begin their journey with me by conducting Business and Personal Audits. This process provides essential insights into their current situation, future goals, and the steps needed to close the gap. It allows us to identify the most effective solutions aligned with their vision, making this approach even more impactful.
Don’t do this alone
A business journey doesn’t have to be a solo one. Find yourself one go-to person who will help you avoid shiny object syndrome, stop you chasing someone else’s strategy, and keep you on a path that’s genuinely yours.
But make it one, otherwise you will quickly find yourself on someone else’s path. Making and un-making decisions, confused and lost. I know this from experience, and I’ve taken more than one path that was not my own. I’ve also supported many clients in finding their way back to the direction that suits them best.
If you’re unsure which path you’re on or would benefit from support in redefining your roadmap, I invite you to book a Discovery Call to explore your next steps. And if you’d like to begin a coaching journey with me, we can discuss that too.
Two ways I can help if you’re not ready for a conversation yet:
