Do I Really Need a Business Coach? (Honest Answer)

Do I need a business coach?

Do I need a business coach? If I’m honest, I’m not sure you’d actually sit down and ask yourself that exact question. Why?

Because asking it might make you feel like a failure, which is not true. In fact, I would argue that seeking help and support is a sign of strength.

Or perhaps you’ve heard some horror stories about coaching and business coaches – so have I, and they’re shocking. Or maybe you are worried about the cost of working with a coach, whether you’ll see a return on your investment. Unsure what difference it will make to you and your bottom line.

All valid concerns, and I hope this article alleviates a few. However, if you are sitting there knowing you need a coach and would like to explore if that is me. Book a Discovery Call and let’s chat.

What are the benefits of working with a business coach?

Where do I start? It depends on you, your business, and where you are heading with it. And let’s be honest, there is a coach for everything — from sales to client attraction. Which is part of the problem: where do you start?”

Putting the who aside, here are some of the benefits:

  1. A sounding board and a safe place to discuss your business challenges and opportunities.
  2. Support in growing your business, and in my case, we work on the foundations first, which is the key to any growth in business.
  3. Access to lived experience and examples to support business development, instead of losing hours down an AI rabbit hole.
  4. Potentially speed up your business’s growth by having the confidence to act on your decisions.
  5. Another person in your business, who, over time, will understand its nuances as well as you do.

Working with a coach isn’t a shortcut to success, but it can help you accelerate progress. In addition, through your coach, you have access to a broader network that can support your business growth and development.

A good coach will challenge your thinking and ideas, helping you see things from new perspectives. They will be supportive through the good, the bad, and the ugly moments of business.

What a coach won’t or shouldn’t do.

All coaches work differently; therefore, the coach you choose should align with your values, have your best interests at heart, and be able to push you a little when necessary. What they won’t or shouldn’t do is:

  • Push you to do something that doesn’t feel right
  • Make you feel bad about yourself or the decisions you have made
  • Tell you what to do or how to do it
  • Force you into a programme that you can’t afford

That last one is a big one for me. The investment needs to be enough to ensure full commitment on both sides, without leaving you feeling financially uncomfortable. As I said, a business coach should always have your best interests at heart.

Do I need a business coach?

How do I know if I need a business coach? It is a much better question. Because there will be signs in your business that you do and here are some examples.

  1. You are ready to move to your next income level and know that what you got you to where you are won’t get you to where you want to be next.
  2. The business has taken control, and you feel that you are running behind trying to keep up, and we’ve all been there!
  3. The business is doing well, but you aren’t making the profit you anticipated or hoped for, and you might not be paying yourself.
  4. The business is doing well, but you are working all hours. You know there has to be a better way, but you can’t seem to find the space to work it out.
  5. You are firefighting, jumping from one task to the next, and you are exhausted. You are falling out of love with your business but not ready to throw in the towel just yet, and you know that things need to change.

Other telltale signs and red flags…

Might include working long hours, worrying about where the next client will come from, and whether you have enough in the bank to pay the bills. You might tell anyone who will listen that you don’t have time, and end the day unsure what you’ve achieved, even though you know you have been ‘busy’ and no longer have time for core activities that grow your business.

If any of those resonate, please do book that Discovery Call and let’s explore your best next steps, which might include me or might not. Either way, during the call, I promise, your shoulders will start to drop, and you might even smile as you start to see a path ahead.

Not quite ready to talk?
