Your success is measured by you

Success is measured by you. Not the latest influencer, craze or your neighbour. You decide what success looks and feels like, and you know it’s right when it makes your heart sing.

Over the years, I’ll admit to being drawn to the latest and most popular phrases. But here’s the thing. Just as I got my head around six figures and began using it in my content, seven appeared, and then eight. Then nine started hitting my inbox and my social media feeds. Notice I use the word phrases, as that is ultimately what they are. So, just for fun, let’s add a few more… evergreen, recurring, and passive.

So it’s no surprise that with the amount of information available at our fingers tips, we can feel overwhelmed, unsure and stuck in that nasty place of indecision.

Worse, once seen, it becomes the unseen – with the algorithms working to feed us more of this type of content. Leaving us wondering if we shall ever reach this utopia – feeling inadequate, lost and with no idea which way to turn.

Success is personal, therefore, can only be measured by you!

Let’s face it; my financial goal might be higher or lower than yours. How many hours I can and want to work, again different from yours. The risks I can take in and for my business again differ from yours because of our circumstances and maybe because I’ve been at it longer or less time than you.

Success is like comparing apples and pears, bananas and pineapples – impossible to measure

Although thinking about it, we all have a favourite, one we love above the others. That we are drawn to because of flavour, colour and texture. So, decide which you love the most and what success means to you and boom, you are on the right track.

The power of knowledge.

Once you know what success is for you and your business – the turnover, profit, and number of hours you want to work. Who you want to serve and why. The key elements for success (well, a few of them) you can relax and more confidently head towards YOUR success.

Knowing the end destination. The success you desire (the fruit you have chosen, just to bring us back to that analogy) means you will more easily focus your attention and take action to arrive. You will use the time YOU have available more wisely and attract the help and solutions you need and those all-important clients!

And if you still need clarification, let me use one of my other favourite analogies, the sat nav.

Imagine for a moment you want a lovely day out. You hop into the car with that – let’s be honest – vague intention. Then, without putting the destination in sat nav, you sit in your car, punching the steering wheel with frustration and wondering why you haven’t moved off the driveway.

You might switch radio stations for a while, as that might inspire you. Yell at a neighbour or two who offer their favourite days out as an option. You may wonder if there is something wrong with the car and look under the bonnet, or decide the car isn’t clean enough and get distracted by that. And as daylight fades, wonder why you wasted a wonderful day sitting on your driveway.

So, decide what success is for you and your business. Stop comparing yourself with others – get in your lane and start moving. And because it’s personal, there is no right or wrong, bigger, better, smaller or less important. Just your incredible end destination, measured by you!

What should you do when you arrive?

Believe it or not, I have worried about this in the past. Yes, changed my plans and decided on a new destination before arriving at the first. In part due to information overload but mainly because I didn’t fully commit to my success. My limiting beliefs holding me stuck, and of course, changing my mind continuously meant I couldn’t fail. I didn’t give myself the very best chance of arriving.

But to answer that question, don’t worry because you will know exactly what to do next.
