Implement the damn plan to experience the journey
Implement the damn plan to experience the journey because while a plan gives focus it means nothing if YOU don’t implement it.
You must take the daily steps and actions to achieve your goals and to bring your vision closer.
Did you take the required steps in 2020?
You might be staring at the screen right now screaming ‘Lindsey there was a pandemic didn’t you notice’, which of course I did. Yet, my plan kept me on track as it should and I took the action; different action perhaps but action all the same.
Implementation is easier when you’re connected to the plan
There’s no better time to plan for your future success than as a year comes to an end. When you feel excited for the twelve months ahead and have the good intention to use the plan. Even if you’re looking into twenty-twenty-one right now with trepidation, I still encourage you to plan for what YOU WANT to happen.
I’ve said many times recently, ‘don’t wait because if not a pandemic there will be something’. For me the something was breast cancer, so if not a pandemic, I would still have had my journey with cancer. Yet, my plan kept me focused, on track and moving forward, resulting in my best year ever! From a financial viewpoint, I still have three months to make it even more amazing.
A quick search on the internet provides the following ‘facts’:
- 80% of resolutions fail by the second week of February.
- Only 8% will achieve their New Year resolutions.
Why? I believe it’s because there was no connection and because you have to close the loop and connect your business goals with what success means to you outside of the business. A holiday home may be, the mortgage paid off, or five-star holidays (when we can fly again)—freedom to choose.
Here’s another fact: ‘You are 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams simply by writing them down on a regular basis.’ I do this in my journal every morning, and then I read them out loud (to the cat if she’ll listen). I smile, I feel it, and I believe it to be possible.
Thinking about your goals and writing them down is not enough. You must embody them and use them to guide all that you do.
Writing down your goals will:
Bring your vision into reality. By committing your long-term vision to paper, you can plan and implement the actions needed to make the vision a reality. Left swirling in your head, the voice of doubt and inner critic will pick away at them until you are left with a pipedream.
They should act as a reminder and keep you focused. That’s why I believe they should be visible and displayed where you can see them, so they drive your action and focus your energy. They become your point of reference for daily, weekly, and monthly activity. They keep you on track and give your attention to the right activity.
Allow you to filter the opportunities presented. Throughout the year, opportunities will be presented, and you’ll be inspired by events and chance meetings. Your goals should guide you in choosing where you give your time and to which opportunities, and only those that bring your goals closer.
Provide a means of tracking progress. You need to not only track progress but also celebrate the wins. Your goals may need to be broken down into smaller ones, meaning you can celebrate on a more regular basis. Even a financial target will have milestones, and recognising when you hit these will help maintain momentum.
Make a commitment to yourself and your business
Achieve your goals by writing them down and displaying them, seeing them and reading them every day. Then, plan the daily, weekly and monthly activities needed to achieve them and START.
I could plan like a ninja, but I didn’t start achieving my goals until I changed my mindset. I embodied my vision by creating my first ten-year plan and using it to manage my business (me).
