Plan your next chapter in business with confidence and excitement

Plan your next chapter in business

There is something exciting about this time of year. Well, there is for me because I genuinely love that it is the perfect time to plan your next chapter in business.

And from October to December, I put busy on pause. I pull out my highlighter and decide what’s worth keeping and what needs a tweak. Perhaps more importantly, what I should stop pretending works.

It is when I strategise around my vision for the year ahead. Take time out to rethink, streamline, and automate and when I map out the year ahead. It is how I make time for the things that actually matter, in and out of the business.

I do this work now because I know that the New Year isn’t a magic reset button. I understand that the first of January won’t automatically fix challenges or make everything fall into place. It’s when I stop to ask: Is the story I’m telling in my business still the one I actually want to write?

And I like to have done the work (mapped out the journey and told the story) before I welcome in the new year. So I can glide into it knowing exactly what the year will look like, while of course leaving plenty of room for surprises.

A new year, a new chapter for some, might be about a BIG project that feels bold and exciting. For others, it’s a time to simplify, refine, or finally give attention to those ideas that have been quietly nudging. And for most of us. It’s a little bit of all three — wrapped up in a heady mix of excitement, hope, and possibly mild panic.

Plan Your Next Chapter in Business

Planning your next chapter in business isn’t about chasing trends or copying what everyone else is doing. It’s about reflection, intention, and alignment. Giving yourself the chance to work with your vision, rather than getting wrapped up in the noise of social media and other people’s expectations.

You can start by thinking about what you want to:

  • Elevate: your goals, your standards, your business impact
  • Shift: boundaries, habits, or practices that no longer serve you
  • Simplify: processes, projects, or commitments that drain your energy
  • Focus: on what truly matters, not what looks impressive online

Once you’ve reflected on these, give yourself permission to go after what you really want in your business. Not what you think you should want, not what others are telling you to chase, and not what seems trendy or popular.

Your next chapter is about aligning your actions with your values, making choices that energise and fulfil you, and taking consistent steps that build momentum and clarity for the months ahead—beyond just a flash of effort.

Clear the Decks To Create the Space

Before diving into 2026, it’s worth “clearing the decks.” This isn’t about overhauling everything at once — it’s about making space for clarity, focus, and fresh ideas. A few practical steps you can take:

  1. Tidy your workspace. Clear the physical clutter on your desk, organise your notebooks, and make your workspace feel inviting.
  2. Delete old files. Go through your computer and cloud storage — remove anything that’s no longer useful or relevant.
  3. Streamline your systems. Review the processes, tools, or subscriptions you’re no longer using and simplify them.
  4. Review your calendar. Block out time for what really matters in the year ahead. Remove or delegate tasks that don’t align with your priorities.
  5. Organise your notes and ideas. Gather scattered thoughts, draft a simple plan, or create a single place for all your goals and inspiration for 2026.

Even small actions like these create mental and physical space, helping you think more clearly and giving you room to plan your next chapter in business.

Prompts to Plan Your Next Chapter

To help you take real steps, consider these prompts:

  • If 2026 were to feel like your best year yet, what would that look like?
  • What one thing could you do now to make that vision more real?
  • Which habit, boundary, or mindset shift would create the most significant impact in your business?
  • What would you stop doing if you knew it would free up energy for what matters most?

As you move into 2026, remember: it’s not about chasing trends, copying others, or doing the “busy work” that looks productive. It’s about the story you want to write — and taking intentional, courageous steps to make that story happen.
