The Cost of Being Busy to Your Business

The cost of busy busy

The cost of being busy is high—it drains your energy, scatters your focus, and leaves you feeling like you’re always running but never arriving. We’ve all been there—some days, I still am. We race through a to-do list, answer emails, and jump from one task to the next, only to find ourselves exhausted and ending the day unsure of what we’ve actually achieved. Sound familiar?

Being busy can make you feel productive and fool you into thinking you are. In the early days, I used to fool myself into thinking that being busy meant I was successful, but my bank account didn’t agree. You see, without clarity, it’s just motion without progress.

As a business coach, I often see this: ambitious business owners like you who are working hard but not necessarily intentionally and, therefore, are not experiencing the progress they need or desire. To achieve true success, your success on your terms and in your way requires stepping back, clarifying what matters, and avoiding the busy fool trap.

And here’s the thing—I don’t have it all figured out either. Some days (or weeks!) don’t go according to plan. But my plan keeps me on track and helps me re-prioritise intentionally instead of reacting to whatever feels urgent. Clarity doesn’t mean perfection. It means knowing where you’re headed so you can course-correct along the way and if necessary.

Cost of Being Busy

There’s a big difference between being busy and being intentional.

  • Busy is a to-do list as long as your arm fills your day with tasks not aligned with your goals.
  • Intentional is choosing the right tasks that move your business forward.
  • Busy is saying yes to everything.
  • Intentional is knowing when to say no.
  • Busy is checking things off a list.
  • Intentional is ensuring those things actually matter.

Business coaching isn’t about adding more plates for you to spin. Instead, I help you create the space to focus on what truly counts. When you have clarity of the end destination and where you WANT to head, you can make better decisions, work smarter, and build success. Success that aligns with your goals, not just the world’s expectations (and don’t get me started on that).

Your Best is Good Enough

Not every day is or will be a powerhouse of productivity and wins. Some days, just getting through is an achievement, and that’s okay. Remember, your best is always good enough, even if that ‘best’ looks different from one day to the next.

Instead of focusing on what you didn’t get done, try acknowledging what you did. Small steps still move you forward. If this resonates, I have a YouTube video on this topic where I share why your enough is good enough today. [Check it out here].

Business Should Be Fun!

We didn’t start our businesses to feel overwhelmed all the time. Success doesn’t have to mean burnout. If you’re constantly grinding but not enjoying the process, it might be time to rethink how you’re working.

When you’re clear on what matters, business becomes lighter. You get to create, experiment, and enjoy what you’re building. And yes, I have another video on this—because fun is a non-negotiable part of success or should be! [Check it out here.]
