Unleash the power of starting: ACT

Unleash the power of starting by doing what you can with what you have and where you are.
I will be honest; I have played slightly with the quote by Theodore Roosevelt, who didn’t say unleash the power. However, the original quote (Do what you can with what you have and where you are) resonates with me. This is because information overload is real, and it stops you from acting. You are bombarded from all directions with ‘how’. The algorithm helpfully delivers the formula to five figures and the blueprint for being a millionaire by last Tuesday. Telling you that you don’t want success enough if you aren’t getting up at 4 a.m.
It is the same in life. Be happier by doing this: cut out X for increased energy and do this exercise for one minute a day to get rid of bingo wings. (Actually, if you know an exercise that can do the last one, let me know! 😆)
But seriously, when information is at our fingertips, everyone, including your neighbour, has a theory or opinion. It is no surprise that we strive for perfectionism instead of choosing imperfect action. Instead, we persist in getting our ducks in a row, learning more because we’re not ready. Allow the story that we don’t know enough to get in the way of taking action.
Stuck, we are prevented from implementing our brilliant idea because we are overwhelmed and lost.
Yet, there is always something you can do.
A step you can take, and by bravely taking it, you can see the next more clearly. The universe aligns, and suddenly, amazing people who can help appear like magic. Solutions start landing, and ideas pop. And instead of being overwhelmed by information, you are weeding out what you don’t need. You have unleashed the power!
You begin making decisions more quickly and become an ‘action’ man or woman—exploring what is possible. The key is to take the first step.
‘Lindsey, doesn’t this get the algorithm working against us again? I can’t lie. Yes, it does. It’s like deciding you want a green car because you don’t see many, and suddenly, the roads are filled with them. You are seeing what you want and need to see, BUT you will now quickly move past anything that doesn’t align.
Unleash the power: do what you can with what you have and where you are.
It is essential to act and take the first step with what you have and where you are. This will stop you from researching the internet (some more) and asking your neighbours for their opinions!
For example, you want to release your first lead magnet, a freebie to help your potential clients take the first step and prepare them for working with you. Suddenly, you are researching lead magnets like your life depended on it and get tied up in the semantics.
Yet, you can create a valuable lead magnet in Canva (other platforms are available) or pretty up a Word document and convert it into a PDF. Both would get you started.
‘Oh but I need a nurturing email sequence’.
Okay, this wasn’t supposed to turn into a lead magnet lesson. But how about you start by gifting it to your potential clients—a great way to get feedback? You could mention it on your socials, and if anyone wants a copy, ask them to DM you and personally email it.
My point is that you can start with what you have and where you are. You don’t need the all-singing version – it doesn’t have to be perfect to unleash the power!
Act to experience momentum in your business.
Do nothing; you will be stuck asking the neighbour or cat for their opinion on lead magnets and email marketing. You start downloading every freebie that catches your attention, hoping for the perfect solution. You will sign up for every free five-day challenge and course. Do anything NOT to act, and I say this from experience!
Yet, surprising things happen when we act upon our decisions and allow things to evolve—the answers and opportunities land. The algorithm of life will start working in your favour. Okay, I can’t guarantee that bit, but I promise it will improve.
There is always something you can do to move your business forward and toward your success goals. Often, this requires you to step outside your comfort zone, but the initial discomfort will create your new comfort zone, the next level to move forward. Oh, and it’s easier and less scary when you have a business coach! 😉
Consistent daily action creates your giant leaps.
Every day, there is something you can do for your business. A call you can make or an email you can send – a social post you can release to the world. If you have an idea you’ve been playing with, a first step might be to plot what this might look like. If you’ve decided to update your website but don’t know where to start – call an expert from your network to ask for professional advice, which WILL be more beneficial to you than asking the cat (other pets are available, by the way).
Inaction breeds doubt and fear, which lead to procrastination and stagnation. So, what can you do today that will unleash the power within your business? How can you use what you have and start from where you are?Â
If the action aligns with your vision, you can’t go wrong, and before you know it, those tiny actions have created your big leap. You will have launched a new programme, course, or product, created a new lead magnet, or secured that client from starting the conversation with that one call or email.
Finally, notice I have used the words’ tiny actions’ above. So, if something feels too big, chunk it into manageable tasks. Then, if you’re struggling to decide which task to give your attention to first, stick a pin in the list and do that one. 😉
