The Power of Pause: How Pulling Back Fuels Success

Do you need to insert a pause into your business? Are you craving twenty-four hours to catch up?
We all have moments when we realise we are trying too hard and doing too much. Sadly, we don’t then give ourselves permission to realign and refocus. Instead, we tell ourselves that we need to cram in more work and find more time – work harder and faster.
Then, when the wheels fall off, we reprioritise and push on again. At the same time, we give ourselves a hard time because we are not creating momentum and not seeing the results. We start berating ourselves for not being good enough, hoping that pulling all-nighters and doing more will make a shift for us. We add more hours to an already long day because it’s time we need, right?
It is a cycle, a hamster wheel that we can’t escape. I say ‘we’ because I know this has been me, and I still occasionally fall into the trap, although it is more likely to happen now because I want to offer, deliver, and be more for my clients. Yes, that is awesome, but it should never be at a price, that price being my health or relationships.
Are you so busy that you can’t see the wood for the trees right now?
When you are firefighting instead of leading your business, the challenge is that you stop making good decisions. You don’t act on the decisions you do make – you may even resort to doing more activities from your comfort zone.
You fill your time with more activity because you believe this will create the results you are after when what you really need is a pause.
What is a pause, and how does pausing fuel success?
A pause is when you give yourself permission to stop what you are doing and go back to the drawing board. It is important to do this because as time passes, as you implement change in your business and grow, so does the ‘to-do’ list. Sometimes, this is because you are popping with ideas, jumping into exciting projects, and adding more to the plan without reviewing it.
The pause lets you incorporate new needs, projects and activities into your annual plan. By doing this, you look at it as a whole instead of areas in isolation and return to leading your business.
The pause puts you back in control and fuels your success.
It allows you to realign and recalibrate and puts you back on the path to success. It is you stepping back to see where the opportunities you have said yes to fit and to see an order for your projects. By stepping back, you make seeing the wood for the trees easier. You take the pressure off and fuel your success.
