Internal work should always be THE priority

Internal work should always be THE priority because YOU are the key to your success, yes you! Not another social media channel, a new lead magnet or freebie or writing another blog. Yes of course these things matter or may do but at the heart of your success is YOU.

So often to fix a problem, shift the business, create that income level you’ve been dreaming of.. you do more. More of what you’ve been doing, more of anything that keeps you busy. More of new this, that or the other – more action. Resulting in you… being in perpetual motion and while this can provide relief, momentum and even income. It will be short-lived because you’ve not done the internal work.

What do I mean by internal work?

You can only do the internal work when you give yourself space, quiet moments and time away from the business. When you allow yourself time to simply be, when you switch off and stop pushing. I use the phrase ‘ease and flow’ often because I want this for you and because this is when you’ll step into your full power and stop forcing everything to come to you, which it can’t because you are blocking it by staying busy.

You see the solutions you seek, the answers you are presently pushing to find are within you. They are bouncing inside, saying ‘pick me, pick me’! But you can’t hear or feel this because you are in motion ALL the time. You are trying this, adding that to the system and quite honestly creating more overwhelm and frustration. Making it even harder for the solution to be heard.

Internal work is a commitment.

I know that I’ve many times fallen into the trap of thinking that I was doing the internal work. When in fact instead I was paying it ‘lip service’. Telling myself I must meditate, journal and step away from the business – have lunch. Then ticking these things off the list and giving myself a pat on the back. Madness!

Internal work isn’t about doing more. Nor is it about sitting in the lotus position for hours, unless you want to. For you, it might be going to the gym every day and concentrating on the sound of the treadmill. It might be walking or sitting in nature, listening to the birds and the low hum of traffic.

It is a daily practice

Meditation has become a big part of my life, I meditate in the morning for fifteen minutes, letting the meditation tracks wash over me. During the day I close my eyes and face the sun taking a few deep breaths and simply listen. When brushing my teeth I focus on the sound of my toothbrush and tune out. It is these tiny moments of time that centre or re-energise me, that enables me to hear what is inside.

I also journal daily and use this as a way of being in a state of gratitude for that which I’ve experienced, received, enjoyed and for what is coming. I also do this just before I go to sleep and in mind saying thank you, showing appreciation for my day.

Internal work expands and grows naturally

Starting with just a single daily practice you will begin noticing what is being attracted to you. This normally manifests for me as a book that is recommended, a blog that I stumble across or a new coach that I’m drawn to work with. I start meeting and having conversations with others that are also on a journey of discovery and so the ripple effect goes on.

And it can all start with the act of daily gratitude.

This was proven to me the minute I changed my journaling from a brain dump of everything that wasn’t working. Let me explain. My journal was full of whining and groaning about how ‘sh*t everything was. Now at the time, I didn’t realise this was attracting more of the same. Thankfully, I changed how I was journaling, and once I started to focus on the good, the single new subscriber to my list, the invoice that was paid on time, more juiciness started to appear.

So, if you do nothing else today, start a gratitude practice. Be grateful before you get out of bed, turn on your laptop, or walk the dog. Start and make it a daily practice and you will soon begin experiencing shifts. Opportunities will show up and you will start to see things that were under your nose all along.
