Show up as the expert that YOU are

Show up as the expert that you are

I was recently asked, “How do I get noticed as the expert?” That’s a great question. First, let me start by saying I KNOW that you ARE an expert in your field and that you are ready for all that is possible for you.

I also know how the mind monkeys can convince you that you’re not ready or able to step into that role. That you are not good enough, ready, or experienced enough, don’t have enough followers, qualifications … blah, blah, blah. This is all rubbish, just stuff you tell yourself because you are scared.

When we start or begin to recognise ourselves as experts, imposter syndrome comes into play. That feeling of not quite being good enough, ready or able. When in reality, you are, but until you work on those feelings, you will continue to hide away.

The good news is you are not alone. Even the most successful businesswomen (and men) feel like this at some point. I know I have and still do at times.

It’s time to CLAIM who you are!

But how do you do that when the mind monkeys are repeatedly playing a game of Tumbling Monkeys, and your fears are growing faster than the weeds in the garden?

It is quite possible that you’ve grown without realising, which can result in the business and you being out of alignment. Below, I’m sharing questions to help you see where there is a mismatch and the tweaks needed to banish the monkeys.

What message are you putting out there?

To answer this question, think about how you are positioning yourself. What does your marketing say about the business and about you? And another big one is your pricing. Does this reflect where you are now and who you’ve become? Is there a mismatch between you as the expert and the message people receive?

Determine what you are the expert in, and ensure your message portrays that.

Who needs to know that you are the expert?

Is it future clients, other organisations, or those who can help connect you to the people who need your help? Are you talking and connecting with the right people? As you and your business grow, as you uplevel and scale, there comes a time when you must leave behind those who no longer serve you, including clients.

This can be challenging because you are moving out of your comfort zone, so lean into it. Check-in and get really clear on who your ideal client is. Only with this clarity can you be certain that you are positioning yourself in the right way and placing yourself in front of the right people.

I suggest you also examine your business model to ensure it will support your current position and, more importantlyyour future plans.

How are you sharing your knowledge?

How would you most like your voice to be heard? Maybe you love writing, in which case are you blogging regularly? Have you considered writing a book? What about speaking? There are many different ways to speak beyond standing on a stage in front of hundreds of faces. Think about podcasts,  vlogging or being a keynote speaker at network meetings.

Get out there and open the doors to the opportunities available.

My final point is:

Remember, people need to hear what you have to say because being an expert isn’t about you. It’s about the service you provide that helps and supports others.

You and all you have to offer is needed and you have a responsibility to make sure that your clients and customers can find you, otherwise, they remain stuck!

This is why claiming yourself as the expert is NEVER conceited or selfish.
