Energy flows where your attention goes
Tony Robbins’s quote states that energy flows where your attention goes. However, yesterday, my energy was depleted, so I went to bed.
I know, shock, horror; Lindsey took a little afternoon nan-nan nap. Plus, it was rather sneaky because my husband thought I was upstairs working in my office.
I had intended to publish a blog to share my thoughts on being consciously aware of where your attention is. Instead, mine was under the gorgeous silver-grey blanket on my bed. To be honest with you, I’m rather proud of myself and here is why.
I put myself first and made self-care a priority.
Something I bang on about all the time and know I’ve not yet mastered, but there I was, saying yes to me and my energy. I woke to the gorgeous smell of curry cooking and could hear the kids outside enjoying the last hours of sunlight. I woke feeling blessed and stupidly guilty, a feeling I brushed off quickly.
You can’t be all that you need to be for yourself, your family, loved ones, or your business if you’re not working at your best. So always be okay with taking time out for yourself, and if you need a sneaky nan-nan or disco nap, go for it.
I needed space to allow my emotions to settle.
Earlier in the day, I’d experienced a coaching session that was probably like no other—where I’d been openly exploring the stories I was telling myself. Immediately after, I felt lighter and was feeling like Amelia Earhart—strong, brave, and adventurous (she is my superhero, in case you’re wondering). I needed time to allow my thoughts and emotions to settle—hence the nap.
When you do the deeper work, it’s important to give yourself time to re-energise. Otherwise, you’re not acknowledging the work you’ve done. You’re passing it over and not giving it the significance it deserves.
Earlier in the week, I’d been wrestling with the devil.
Not quite literally but the inner critic had raised her ugly head and was filling mine with untruths. She has a habit of doing this and I can now almost predict her arrival but she is getting much easier to deal with.
You see, you’re not alone. We all have times of angst, worry, or sheer frustration—moments when it feels impossible, yet deep down, you know it’s not. On occasion, you’ll be able to move forward more quickly than others. Then, sometimes, you need to step away or even take a nan-nan nap.
Where was my fear coming from?
My fear and wrestling match this week come from launching a brand-new Academy programme—one that I’m super proud of and excited to bring to you. But I’m only human, and just like you, I can have moments of ‘what the hell am I doing?’ I ask myself why anyone would buy at this time (pandemic and all) or even want to work with me.
