Make the change, be the change
MAKE the change, BE the change or allow the change to happen TO you. Yes, it can happen to you, and this is when you’ve released control.
Making or being the change you desire sounds like such a simple concept. Yet I feel that, like me, you have not made the change at one time or another (right now). You’ve continued to do the same old, while secretly hoping it WILL get better.
Working every hour available and worrying that you do not have enough time. You have ‘soooo’ much to do you don’t know where to start. Sound familiar? Experiencing guilt for not doing ‘the housework’, keeping up with the ironing or spending enough time with your kids. Did anything hit the mark there?
Thing is and it’s hard to hear I know BUT you are doing this to yourself.
You are deciding to be busy, overwhelmed and on the back foot. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be like this, and You CAN change right now. By saying no and changing the way you work BY working less, you will reduce the pressure and work more efficiently.
If right now you’re rolling around on the floor with laughter shouting, ‘What planet are you on Lindsey!’ – stay with me.
As an entrepreneur, freelancer, mumpreneur or business owner – no matter the title you give yourself, working less will reduce stress and relieve the pressure YOU’RE putting yourself under. Yes, the pressure that YOU’RE putting yourself under and here is why
Fear of failure
You work 24/7 for fear of failing, letting others down, or being unable to pay the bills. But I’m here to tell you that even the most successful, turning over eight, nine and ten-figures feel this pressure. Earning more doesn’t necessarily remove this emotion.
From experience, I know that working into the night and early hours of the morning doesn’t result in ‘doing or achieving more’. In fact, and definitely in my case, it created more pressure, because making good business decisions is almost impossible when you’re tired, so you make none or the wrong ones. Plus, anything I worked on into the night had to be reviewed, checked and worked on again in the morning.
In the words of Oprah…. “There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction.”
So enjoy the journey, take the detours and learn from the experiences.
You’re literally creating more work for yourself.
Fear is an emotion caused by the threat of pain, harm or danger. Taking control of your business and the destination and choosing the journey will reduce that fear.
With absolute clarity of the end destination you will focus on the right activity. You will make business decisions more quickly and begin experiencing momentum in the business like never before. You will stop hiding behind tasks or giving your attention to an activity that’s easy (for you). Those tasks and actions you know in your heart keep you in your comfort zone – your safe place.
When you work smarter, you WILL experience more clients, money, and time.
You don’t focus on the priorities.
Those that will have the greatest impact and most likely because they are outside of your comfort zone. Instead you spend your valuable time being busy, doing the easy and quick. Giving your time to activity that will not strengthen or grow your business but feels safe.
It will not put in you a place of control meaning the pressure continues to build and the fear really takes hold. I’ve been there and it’s a scary place to be. Once I realised, I was only fooling myself, I was able to do something about it, strengthen the business and move it forward.
Learning to focus on the priorities was a massive turning point in my business. And I was only able to do this when I’d finally worked where I was going. This bringing excitement and energy while showing me exactly what to focus my attention on.
You’re the ‘boss’ and it’s tough
Responsible for everything in the business and wear many hats. You are the CEO, Finance Director and Marketing Manager, the Head of Sales and in charge of office supplies. Need to empty the bins and keep the coffee machine churning out the java.
Starting a business is like being given a newborn. Every time you think, ‘yep I’ve got this’, something changes, and you need to learn new skills. The pressure and responsibility of being the ‘boss’ is enormous, with or without a team.
Are you ready to put your CEO hat on, take control and stop allowing the business to run you? I know you can do this and that you’re ready to claim (way) more clients, money and time.
You’re the boss, and it’s time to GET tough – it’s time to lead your business to the success you desire and deserve.
